Youth council to partner entertainment industry to boost participation in politics.
Mr Solomon Adodo, President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says the association will partner with the entertainment industry to get more youths involvement in politics.
Adodo, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos, said that this would engender the country’s development.
He said it was time for youths to be actively involved in politics ahead of the 2023 elections.
According to him, Nigerian youths need to be more proactive and play their roles as potential leaders of tomorrow.
“It is time we as youths understand that our voices are powerful; we have to get involved in things that concern our future and lend our voice to advocate for the younger generation.
“Political apathy among the youths is what has kept us restricted; we need to get more involved, it has been proven in the past that an average Nigerian youth is intelligent.
“We understand that music and entertainment remain a focal point for youths. That is why we are holding talks with some stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
“We intend to use entertainment as a tool towards achieving our goal, which is for us as youths to take our rightful place in our society,” he said.
Adodo also urged the youth to ensure they had a united front.
“The emergence of social media has made interactions more dynamic, but as youths, we must understand that elections are not won on social media, but we can create awareness through it.
“We can reach millions of people in just a tweet; we can push our agenda on these platforms without forgetting that the agitation can start on social media but elections are won on the streets,” he said.
