Mechanic, 43, docked over alleged N800,000 theft
A 43-year-old mechanic, Chidi Amadi, who allegedly stole N800,000 was on Tuesday arraigned in a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court.
Amadi, a resident of Sabon Tasha is standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 15, along Nnamdi Azikwe Express Way by Kurmin Mashi, Kaduna.
He said that the defendant and two others now at large, conspired and stole N300,000 from a car parked on Nnamdi Azikwe Express way Kaduna, belonging to Ahmed Abdullahi.
Leo said the defendant also stole the sum of N500, 000 from another car parked in the same area belonging to Ja’afar Mohammed.
According to him, a team of anti-car theft operators of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department arrested the defendant, while the two others escaped.
Leo said during investigation, the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.
“The offence violates Section 217 and 59 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017,” he said.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 15, for hearing.
