Why Timo Werner should take over Chelsea’s left wing
So the much anticipated Tottenham vs Chelsea fixture is now done and so many reactions are being sent out by fans as Chelsea had a quite satisfying day out at the New White Hart Lane, scoring three goals and conceeding none. It was a generally brilliant performance from Chelsea, especially in the second half, but it’s not without it mistakes, as Chelsea’s creative game seems not to be working any longer.
This drop in creativity is primarily a fault from the wingers, as Kai Havertz and Mason Mount just didn’t seem to find their rhythm on this occasion. Looking at the match analytically, we could see that the striker, Romelu Lukaku was constantly dropping into the midfield to receive the ball before he could advance as the wingers just didn’t string enough passes together to create a chance.
However, the dynamics in the wing changed the moment Timo Werner came on and he was able to dominate the flank as a proper winger should. This is evident as he was able to create a total of 4 chances in his limited time on the field, and successfully making one into an assist for the last goal scored by Antonio Rüdiger.
Werner should be given a chance in the Chelsea’s first team, as that would better maximize the ability of Romelu Lukaku to score, which can only happen if he gets the ball in scoring positions and not having to drop into the midfield to get it always.
