PDP urges aspirants to accept defeat in good faith
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bauchi State chapter has urged defeated aspirants of the State and National Assembly primary elections to accept their defeat in good faith.
Alhaji Hamza Akuyam, the PDP chairman in the state, made the call when victorious candidates who emerged from the elections paid him a visit at the party secretariat on Tuesday in Bauchi.
He said that the outcome of the primary elections showed that the people overwhelmingly voted for the party’s candidates of their choice.
“It is not possible for anybody or any politician to say he or she is more popular than the people, it is not possible.
“The power of the people is much more potent, stronger than the people in power because when they decide to speak by mutual consent that they want somebody, it is always massive.
“Aggrieved aspirants must accept defeat in good faith because it is the people that have spoken at the elections,’’ Akuyam said.
The chairman also congratulated the candidates on their victory at the primary elections.
Earlier, the PDP’s governorship candidate, Alhaji Ibrahim Kashim, lauded the effort of the party’s leadership for conducting peaceful and transparent primary elections.
He said the party’s leadership did the right thing at the primary elections in the state.
“The primary elections of the party were conducted in a peaceful and free atmosphere across all the constituencies.
“It was transparent, without fear or favour and all aspirants were treated with care and respect.
“We witnessed no rancour or bickering across the state during the primary elections,’’ he stressed.
Kashim called for unity and synergy among the candidates to enable the party to face the 2023 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the PDP concluded its primary elections in Bauchi State on Monday.
Thirty-one state constituency, 12 House of Representatives, and three senatorial candidates emerged from the election.
