Defection: Wike decides
As the cold war between River Gov Nyesom Wike, his men, and the PDP heats up, many have called on the former presidential aspirant to cross-carpet.
The call became louder when his men, Gov Seyi Makinde, Prof Jerry Gana, and others on the PDP presidential campaign council pulled out midweek.
But Thursday, Wike announced his decision during an emergency PDP meeting on his state.
“We will do the fight in the party. We are not like them, when in 2014 they walked out from Eagle Square. They’ve forgotten. They walked out and joined APC,” Wike said.
He has chosen to stay in determination to sustain his war agaist the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
The APC and other parties have been courting him since he began his rebellion after he lost the party presidential primary.
He described those who run away from fight are weak people and that he would not do so.
The governor who has accused his party of being pro-north noted that the constitution of the party clearly states that elective and party offices must be zoned.
“You have taken the presidential candidate, you have taken party chairman, you have also taken the DG of the campaign. We are talking about party politics,” he said.
“You can put pressure on the BoT chairman to resign when his tenure hasn’t come to an end. But you cannot put pressure on the chairman to resign.”
The National Daily reported how the BoT Chairman Walid Jibrin resigned months to his tenure expiration, and a southerner, ex-Sen. President Adolpus Wabara took over.
