Man in court for allegedly stealing 100 motorcycles
One, Mr Wasiu Okunola, was on Tuesday arraigned before Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing about 100 motorcycles in Akure Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olusegun Akeredolu, told the court that Okunola, conspired with one Biola, now at large and committed the offence.
Akeredolu said the offence was punishable under section 510 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
He said that it took Police and the operatives of the Department of State Security ( DSS) three months before they could arrest the accused person.
Akeredolu added that the accused person committed the said offence in different periods between 2022 and 2023.
Akeredolu, therefore, asked the court to adjourn the case to enable him present witnesses.
He also prayed the court not to grant the defendant bail, saying that he might jump the bail if granted.
However, the defendant’s counsel, Mr Daniel Ogungbemi, objected to the prayer, saying that the offence was a bailable one.
Ruling on the case, Magistrate Mr Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties who are dutifully engaged.
Sekoni added that the two sureties must deposit N1 million each at the court and that they would forfeit the money if the defendant ran away.
The Magistrate, therefore, adjourned the case to March 24 for hearing.
