“I’m bigger than Headies” — Portable says
By Orukpe Rebecca.
Portable, the Nigerian street-pop artist who has taken the music industry by storm with his hit song “Zazzuh Zeh,” has revealed his desire to win a Grammy Award someday. He has quickly become a household name due to his music and antics on social media.
In a new song that has been circulating on social media, Portable claims that he is “bigger than the Headies award” and has set his sights on winning a Grammy. The Headies is an annual music awards show in Nigeria that recognizes outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry, but Portable’s relationship with the event has been rocky since he was disqualified from two categories in 2022 for threatening fellow nominees.
Despite this, Portable remains optimistic and believes winning a Grammy would be a career-defining moment. He has demonstrated his ambition and commitment to global success and is determined to achieve his goals.
In the midst of the 16th Headies controversy, Portable took the opportunity to reflect on his talent and accomplishments, highlighting that his lack of a Headies award does not detract from his greatness. He even compared himself to the late American rapper Tupac, who never won a Grammy despite being considered one of the greatest rappers of all time. This comparison serves as a reminder that awards are not the sole determinant of success, and one’s talent and impact should not be discredited based on accolades.
The 16th Headies showed the usual controversies, and the Best Female Artist award was not presented on stage. Portable’s recent comments can be seen as a jab at the awards show and suggest that he is seeking recognition beyond the Nigerian music industry.
As Portable continues to make waves in the music industry, fans are eagerly anticipating his potential to achieve global recognition and bring Nigerian street-pop to the forefront of the international music scene. With his talent, work ethic, and unwavering determination, it is only a matter of time until Portable achieves his dream of winning a Grammy Award.
