Just in: NCC approves MTN Nigeria’s purchase of 2.6Ghz spectrum
MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has announced the approval of its purchase of 2.6 GHz spectrum by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In a press release statement on Tuesday, MTN disclosed that the license of the 2.6 GHz spectrum is for 10 years which would run from 7th September 2023 till 16th April 2033 when it can be renewed.
MTN said this 2.6 GHz spectrum would enable the telecom giant to “enhance network capacity and improve customer experience”.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had earlier announced that MTN had emerged as the sole approved bidder for the new licence, it said in a statement.

“With the 2.6 GHz band, we expect to roll out and provide the full range of LTE (Long Term Evolution mobile broadband) services to Nigerians, empowering Nigeria with the latest mobile broadband technology.”
“This licence acquisition further demonstrates MTN’s abiding faith in the future of Nigeria and the resilience of the Nigerian economy.”
MTN is the largest mobile phone operator in Nigeria with 57 million subscribers, and the country accounts for about a third of its revenues.
