Edo taskforce arrests 11 cultism suspects
Edo Special Taskforce on Anti-Cultism has apprehended 11 suspected cultists in a series of raids across the state within its first two months of operation.
The arrests are part of a comprehensive effort to eradicate cultism in the state.
Mr. Chris Nehikhare, the State Commissioner of Communication and Orientation and a taskforce member, stated that the government is resolute in enforcing the newly enacted anti-cultism law to its fullest extent.
The taskforce, led by the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), was established in response to the escalating incidents of cult-related violence.
Initially, the taskforce focused on education and persuasion to discourage youths from joining cults.
Still, it has now shifted its focus to enforcement, resulting in the arrest of key cult members across the state. Cult members are warned to renounce their affiliations or face legal consequences, as the taskforce is determined to eliminate cultism in Edo.
Once a discreet investigation is concluded, the suspects will be charged in court.
