The Chairman, Ikole Local Government Area, Ekiti State, Bayo Omojola, has appealed to traders not to sell food items at inflated prices, especially as the Ramadan begins.
Omojola, in a media interaction in Ikole-Ekiti on Sunday, said that some traders were in the habit of increasing the prices of food items, especially during Ramadan.
Omojola appealed to such traders to have compassion on Nigerians, especially the Muslims who were currently fasting.
He called on market leaders, women leaders and traditional leaders to persuade food traders to sell at affordable prices.
”It is a known fact that during Ramadan, food traders often inflate prices, which is not good.
” I want to appeal to our market leaders, women leaders and traditional chiefs who are closer to our traders to educate them to be kind and considerate while selling their items.
”This is the holy month for our Muslim brothers and sisters. I expect total support from the residents and indigenes of Ikole,” he said.
Omojola urged Muslim residents to pray for the development of both the local government and the state, adding.
The chairman assured the Muslim community of his continuous support during and after the fasting period.
