Oyo APC governorship candidate donates car to rescued school principal
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has donated a Toyota Camry to Mrs. Rachael Folake Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, who spent 56 days in captivity after being abducted by kidnappers.
Mrs. Alamu was kidnapped in May alongside teachers, pupils and other residents in Oriire Local Government Area before she was eventually rescued after nearly two months in captivity.
The vehicle donation, according to Senator Alli, was made in recognition of the principal’s courage, resilience and strength throughout her ordeal, as well as to support her recovery and return to normal life.
During her captivity, Mrs. Alamu reportedly appeared in several ransom videos released by the kidnappers, pleading for assistance while negotiations for her release were ongoing. Despite the traumatic experience, she was widely commended for remaining composed and showing concern for the welfare of the pupils who were abducted alongside her.
Reports also indicate that the principal lost her personal vehicle during the abduction. The vehicle was allegedly taken by the kidnappers and later destroyed.
The newly donated Toyota Camry is expected to replace the lost vehicle and ease her movement as she gradually recovers from the psychological and emotional impact of the incident.
Presenting the vehicle, Senator Alli praised Mrs. Alamu’s resilience and described the donation as a token of support and appreciation for her courage in the face of adversity.
The abduction of Mrs. Alamu, teachers and pupils from Community High School, Esiele, drew widespread concern across Oyo State and the country, with calls for improved security in schools and rural communities.
Observers say the donation highlights the importance of providing continued support to victims of kidnapping beyond their rescue, helping them rebuild their lives after traumatic experiences.
