Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has revealed that she recently underwent a major surgical procedure, explaining her sudden disappearance from social media and assuring fans that she is now focused on recovering.
The Grammy-nominated singer shared the update on her Instagram Story, apologising to her fans, known as “Mobstarrs,” for her recent absence online. She disclosed that although she had hoped to recover quickly, the procedure turned out to be more complicated than doctors initially expected.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.
While Ayra Starr did not reveal the nature of the surgery or the health condition that led to it, she reassured supporters that she only needs time to rest before returning to work.

Despite recovering from surgery, the singer remained committed to promoting her upcoming album, Starrgirl. She encouraged fans to continue supporting the project by pre-ordering the album and spreading the word ahead of its release.
“Starrgirl is coming so soooon. I need everyone out there spreading the word. Tell your friends, your family, your neighbours! Order Starrgirl ASAP!!! Love you guys,” she wrote.
In a separate update, Ayra Starr also revealed that she had been signing copies of her first vinyl and CD inserts, urging fans to purchase the limited editions through her official store despite her temporary break from public appearances.
The health update comes at a particularly busy period in the singer’s career. In recent weeks, excitement has continued to build around her Hollywood acting debut in Children of Blood and Bone, while anticipation is also growing for the release of her new album.
Following her announcement, fans flooded social media with messages of encouragement and well wishes, expressing relief that the singer was recovering and hoping to see her back on stage soon. Many also praised her openness, noting that public figures often choose to keep health challenges private.
Although Ayra Starr has not disclosed when she will resume public appearances, her message suggests she intends to return once she has fully recovered. For now, the award-winning singer says her priority is rest, healing and preparing for the next chapter of her career.
