FG declares April 3, 6 public holidays for 2026 Easter celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, will be observed as public holidays in celebration of this year’s Easter festivities.

The declaration was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, acting on behalf of the Federal Government.

In an official statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended heartfelt Easter greetings to Christians across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on and embrace the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. He emphasized that these values, along with tolerance and a strong sense of community, are essential for promoting national unity.

The Minister also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to policies aimed at fostering national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity, encouraging citizens to uphold these principles in their daily lives.

The declaration allows Nigerians to commemorate Easter while providing an opportunity for reflection, family gatherings, and participation in religious and communal activities.
