In the multiple accidents involving several vehicles, no fewer than five bodies were recovered at the scene while some later died in the hospital. 19 persons sustained various degrees of injuries consisting of 11 adult male and eight female.
As a result, there was huge gridlock that stretched over several kilometres along the expressway.
The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said the Agency received distress call through the emergency toll free number about 7am requesting assistance from the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Although the cause of the accident was not immediately ascertained, the General Manager disclosed that 15 vehicles consisting of seven trucks, one pick-up, three cars and four buses were involved.

Truck with registration number BDG 561 XG (Lagos).
Others include Nissan Cabster with registration XS 216KSF (Lagos), two Honda Accord with registration numbers MUS 411DG (Lagos), APP 303DV (Lagos), Lexus Jeep with registration number FKJ 475BR (Lagos), Volkswagen Danfo with registration number KTU 594XM (Lagos), Ford Bus with registration number KTU 340XU (Lagos), Mazda Bus with registration number AKD 520XW (Lagos) and Nissan Bus with registration number BDG 27AA (Lagos).
Similarly, there was also another accident around Fagba Ojurin Ifako Ijaye, Abbatour, killing about four persons.
According to according to Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), it was discovered that the accident occurred when a truck with registration No: MYM 63 XA was making a U-TURN on the railway track leading to a collision with an oncoming train.
