Ohaneze youth campaigns for alternative to beef in the east
The Ohanaeze Youth Council has asked governors of the south-east states to ban consumption of beef in the region.
National President of the pan-Igbo youth group demanded in a statement on Thursday, describing the proposed ban as a ‘security measure’ which would put a stop to the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the South-East.
“The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has urged Ndigbo to shun cattle consumption and look for alternative,” said Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro,
The umbrella body for cattle breeders, the Miyetti Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, however, has said they enjoy cordial relationshops with their hosts in the east.
The rising incidents of violent clashes between herdsmen and farmers across the nation have engendered hostilities between the two ethnic groups.
