Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin has unveiled former Flying Eagles chief coach John Obuh as its new Technical Adviser.
Unveiling the coach in Ilorin on Saturday, the club’s Chairman, Oladimeji Thompson, urged football enthusiasts and stakeholders in the state to give the new Technical Adviser the maximum support.
Thompson also pledged his resolve to reposition the club in order to send positive signs that the club is out for greater exploits in the new season.
“The club management however wishes to applaud the efforts of the state governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, for the honour done the team,’’ he said.
The club chairman disclosed that the team would resume training in preparation for the new season on Monday.
He assured that the club management had put measures in place to ensure that none of their players left the club before the new season.
In his remarks at the occasion, Obuh assured the club’s fans and the people of the state of his total dedication, commitment and utmost professionalism.
“I assure you of my total dedication, commitment and utmost professionalism in the quest to not only take Kwara United back to the Premier League but reposition and restructure the club’s technical crew to meet the standards obtainable all over the world.’’
The former Flying Eagles coach asked for the same support accorded him when he first handled the team in the 2008/2009 season and took the team to the Premier League.
He promised to retain about 80 percent of the players presently in the team and recruit few new ones to raise a formidable team.
Also speaking at the event, the state’s Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Kale Ayo, said he was disappointed that Kwara United were relegated at the end of last season.
“I now challenge the new Technical Adviser to show maximum dedication to his job so that the club can return to the Premier League,’’
he said.
Ayo promised that no one would be allowed to intervene in the recruitment of players for the team.
National Daily reports that Kwara United FC will play in the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the 2015/2016 season which begins in the next few weeks.
This was after it was relegated from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the end of the 2014/2015 season.
