INEC ad-hoc staff demand payment of allowances

Ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recruited for the 2019 general elections, who were on duty for the February 16, 2019, presidential and National Assembly elections that were postponed to February 23 are protesting to the INEC Chairman, Prof.  Mahmoud Yakubu, to urgently attend to the non-payment of their allowances.

Counsel to the INEC ad hoc staff, Amobi Nzelu, at a press briefing in Abuja, disclosed that in addition to the election allowances, the simulation and induction course allowances for the ad hoc staff have also not been paid.

The counsel said that a writ of summons has been served on INEC which has 14 days to respond to the matter

The ad hoc staff, who participated in the exercise, said they are being owed the sum of N11.37 billion election allowances by the INEC.
