Buhari disappoints Nigerians, signs Electoral Act Amendment Bill Friday
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday disappointed the expectations of Nigerians of the signing of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which the president revealed will be signed on Friday. There were high expectations and pressures on the president to sign the bill on Tuesday to avoid postponement of the 2023 general elections by the INEC. The elections were proposed to commence in February 2023, and INEC had expressed concerns that except the electoral act bull was signed last Tuesday, the elections may be postponed.
The Special Adviser to the President on media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, had on Tuesday revealed that President Buhari would sing the electoral act bill within hours, which he stretched over a hypothetical duration of 12 hours, 24 or 48 hours. After 24 hours, the bill was not singed, but moving into the 36th hours, the presidency revealed that President Buhari will now sign the bill on Friday. That, however, raises the hope that Nigerians would at least have the bill singed.
President Buhari had assured that he will assent to the electoral act amendment bill if the gray areas he pointed out and requested for review are adjusted.
