Counsel issues DSS 48-hour ultimatum to release Igboho’s aides
The crisis over the detention of Sunday Igboho’s aides by the Department of Security Service (DSS) is taking a new twist. The Counsel to Sunday Igboho’s aides, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has issued 24 hours ultimatum to the DSS to release his clients who have been in their custody over the past two months of their arrest.
Olajengbesi in a media interaction in Abuja, protested that failure of the DSS to release his clients would lead to contempt proceedings before a court of competent jurisdiction.
He argued that the bail bond of his clients had been fully perfected after Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Abuja Federal High Court signed the release order, setting all Sunday Igboho’s aides free, including the 4 contested detainees, lamenting that the DSS refused to release his clients.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court Abuja signed the release order setting Sunday Igboho’s aides free 19 days after they were granted bail on August 4, 2021.
Justice Egwuatu also signed the Release Order of the four contested detainees, rejecting the argument of counsel to DSS, Idowu Awo, who alleged high level of complicity on their part.
The 12 persons were arrested during a midnight raid on Igboho’s residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, on July 2. Two persons were killed in the operation.
