Dep. Gov. Otuaro assures victims of Ogbe Ijoh market fire incident of state govt.s support
Deputy Governor Kingsley Otuaro of Delta State on Friday assured victims of the fire tragedy at Ogbe Ijon market of the assistance of the Delta State government on the loss of goods and stores they encountered. The deputy governor visiting the market razed down by fire, expressed sympathy for the traders whose goods were burnt in the inferno. The deputy governor also expressed sympathy for the traders over loss over goods worth millions of naira, and the temporary loss of mean of livelihood.
Deputy Governor Otuaro in a statement on Friday highlighted: “Earlier today, I visited the Ogbe-Ijoh market which was razed down by fire on the 23rd of January, 2022.
“I beheld the scene of the event and indeed it was catastrophic. I felt the pains in the eyes of the victims with goods worth several millions of naira burnt to ashes and people displayed out their livelihood.
“I sympathize with the community of traders in the market especially market women and young people whose livelihoods and that of their families depend on their business ventures in the market.
“I assured the victims of the ugly event of the support of the Government of Delta State to ensure that their sufferings at this critical time is ameliorated and also put in place measures to avert incident of this kind in the future.
“I further advised them of the need to take precautionary measures to ensure the reoccurring nature of the inferno in the market is avoided.
“I sincerely thank selfless Deltans and government agencies that responded to the event in a way that there was no further escalation.
“We are also grateful to God that there was no loss of life.”
