In the recent past, diabetes has been a problem that many people are finding hard to deal with.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), diabetes is a condition that alters an individual’s metabolism and sugar in the blood. If the condition is not managed in good time, it can have bad effects on a person’s health and even lead to death. One person in a group of ten people in the world suffer diabetes.

There is no treatment for diabetes at the moment but the condition can be managed when noticed in good time. At an early stage, the symptoms can be managed and if put together with a lifestyle one is likely to recover. One of the first signs is a skin condition that you should look out for on your fingers.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) notes that when the skin on a person’s fingers get thick, waxy and tight then it is likely that they have diabetes. The change in the skin is called digital sclerosis and more evident on the hands.

Diabetes patients usually have high sugar content in the blood which damages the blood vessels below the skin. When the blood vessels get destroyed, the blood that is being supplied to most body parts like the hands and feet may lack adequate oxygen. Depriving the hands vital nutrients and oxygen can lead to the development of digital sclerosis.
