Gov. Ikpeazu shuts cattle market, abattoir in Aba
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has shut the abattoir, cattle market and the proximal Ahia Udele market at Ogbor Hill, Aba, after a fully loaded trailer lost control and crashed into the abattoir located at Waterside River area of Ogbor Hill, killing unspecified number of persons.
The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, John Okiyi Kalu, in statement ordered all the people doing business at the markets and abattoir to relocate to the new Omuma Uzor Abattoir in Ukwa West Council Area.
The Abia State government ordered the relocation people doing businesses at the popular Ahia Udele to the Good Morning Market, Aba.
Governor Ikpeazu mandated the Abia State Ministry of Homeland Security, to work with relevant security agencies in ensuring compliance.
The statement indicated that “the Ministry of Trade and Investment had long commenced processes to relocate the markets in line with public health advice received from the Ministry of Environment and other relevant agencies before the recent accident at the Ugbor Hill abattoir.”
