Health minister hints of collaboration of FG, state, local governments to improve healthcare services
The Minister of State for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, says the Federal Government will collaborate with state and local governments to improve primary and secondary healthcare services in the country.
Ehanire disclosed this on Monday when he visited the Palace of the Otaru of Auchi, His Royal Highness, Aliru Momoh, in the Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo.
The minister said the present administration was focusing on primary and secondary healthcare in its attempt to provide quality health services to all Nigerians.
“We are beginning at the primary level and we are not going to ignore the secondary healthcare level as well.
“There is going to be collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments and the local governments to ensure quality healthcare delivery in the country.
“With the introduction of the National Health Act and an improvement in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), we should be able to have better funds flow to improve the healthcare system as a whole,’’ he said.
Ehanire added that the present administration was committed to providing quality healthcare to Nigerians.
The minister decried the level of capital flight as a result of medical tourism, saying that it was necessary to speedily address the problem for the survival and development of indigenous healthcare practitioners and the sector.
Earlier, the monarch noted that the community lacked adequate manpower and equipment in most of its hospitals.
Momoh called for positive changes in both primary and secondary healthcare services in the country, saying that it would help to restore confidence in the nation’s public health sector.
