Just in: Atiku, Tambuwal, Imoke in closed door meeting with Obasanjo

In a move that has sparked intense political speculation, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku, who served as Vice President under Obasanjo’s administration between 1999 and 2007, arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Complex in Abeokuta at approximately 12:37 pm.

He was accompanied by Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Governor of Sokoto State, and Liyel Imoke, former Governor of Cross River State.

While the details of the meeting remain undisclosed, political analysts suggest that it may revolve around the current political climate in Nigeria, particularly as parties prepare for future elections.

Dr. Adekunle Oloruntoba, a political analyst and lecturer at the University of Lagos, noted that such high-level meetings often signify strategic political realignments.

“Considering the history between Atiku and Obasanjo, this meeting could signal an attempt to consolidate political forces or seek guidance ahead of potential political maneuvers,” he said.

Similarly, Dr. Grace Udeh, a governance expert, believes the meeting may focus on reconciliation and coalition building within the PDP. “With Nigeria’s political landscape shifting, Atiku may be seeking Obasanjo’s support or advice on navigating upcoming challenges,” she stated.

The relationship between Atiku and Obasanjo has been historically complex, marked by political disagreements during their tenure in government. However, both leaders have, in recent years, demonstrated efforts at mending fences.
