Melaye, others react as senate approves Buhari’s request to increase fuel subsidy to N4trn
Former Senator of Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye took to his Twitter handle to react after the National Assembly on Thursday, approves the request of the president to increase fuel subsidy from N442billion to N4trillion. In a letter sent by the president on April 5 2022 to the National Assembly, he claimed that the step was necessary because of the crude oil crisis which was caused by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
However, after the Senate approves the president’s request, there have been several mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media and other notable activists and politicians. One of those who lamented was Deji Adeyanju who claimed that under PDP, the highest fund spent on subsidy was not more than N300billion annually, but the APC Government is set to spend N4trillion on fuel subsidies in 2022.

Also, former Senator Dino Melaye decried the grant of the request. According to him, he said, “As senate approves Buhari’s request to increase fuel subsidy, Nigeria is to experience highest inflation hit in history. APC is our albatross. SDM”
