Oyebanji extends lead as APC dominates Ekiti governorship race with 91% of results uploaded

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, is maintaining a clear lead in the Ekiti State governorship election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues the collation process, with 91 per cent of polling unit results already uploaded to its Results Viewing Portal (IReV).

Preliminary figures emerging from the ongoing collation exercise indicate that Oyebanji has secured a commanding advantage over his closest rivals across several local government areas, consolidating early leads recorded at the polling unit level.

INEC’s live data update shows that results from the vast majority of polling units have now been transmitted, significantly advancing transparency and real-time public access to election outcomes. The high rate of result uploads has also allowed party agents, observers, and voters to track trends as they develop across the state.

So far, the APC candidate has maintained consistent leads in multiple wards, reflecting strong performances in both urban centres and rural communities. Opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have trailed behind in most of the reported results, though collation is still ongoing in a few areas.

The election process has largely been described as orderly, with reports of smooth deployment of electoral materials and the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) across polling units. The technology has continued to support voter accreditation and result transmission, contributing to the speed at which results are being uploaded to INEC’s portal.

Election observers have also noted that while the process has remained largely peaceful, final assessments will depend on the completion of collation and verification at local government and state levels.

As results continue to trickle in, attention remains focused on whether opposition candidates can close the gap in remaining polling units or whether Oyebanji will maintain his dominant position through to the final declaration by INEC.
