Presidency 2023: My ambition is not blind to step on Buhari’s toes – Tinubu
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at a meeting with the APC House of Representatives members in the National Assembly, disclosed that he told President Muhammadu Buhari when he went to inform him of his presidential ambition that his ambition is not blind that he will step on the president’s toes.
Tinubu emphasised that the National Assembly is a vital arm of government. He said that the federal lawmakers have made important contributions to the unity and stability of Nigeria.
The leading APC presidential aspirant stated that the lawmakers have played critical roles for the sustenance of the nation’s democracy as the most direct representatives of the individual constituencies at the federal level.
According to Tinubu: “I mentioned to Mr. President of my ambition.
“I told him my ambition is not blind to the extent that I will step on his toes. I just want to step into his shoes and not on his toes.
“My entrance into national politics began in this building. I was first a senator and shall always consider myself part of this body.”
Tinubu told the federal lawmakers that he has come to seek their counsel, collaboration, and support for his presidential ambition.
Tinubu had earlier met with the APC Senators in the National Assembly.
Tinubu declared: “I seek your partnership in my quest to become the Presidential Candidate of our party and to win the general elections in February 2023.
“This is not about gaining power. It is about securing good government for the nation. Together, the Executive and Legislative branches of this democratic tree must strive to cultivate and bring forth good fruit for the welfare of the people.”
