The Vice Presidential candidate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections, Peter Obi, has indicated interest to contest for the president in 2023, however, giving certain condition. The former Governor of Anambra State on Tuesday revealed that he will contest for the 2023 presidential election if the PDP zones the ticket to the south. he added that if it is thrown open, Nigerians will hear from him.
Obi on huis twitter handle wrote on Tuesday: “Yes, I will step into the field to contest for the opportunity to serve this great country as President if my party, the PDP, zones the ticket to the south.
“But if it is thrown open, Nigerians will also hear from me.”
Obi has sustained his close relationship with Atiku after the 2019 general elections even after they lost in the presidential race. He has been silent until Tuesday on the presidential race since his political ally, Atiku, had already declared interest in the presidential race and had commissioned a consultation committee led by High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, to mobiliser support across the country.
