Obi on huis twitter handle wrote on Tuesday: “Yes, I will step into the field to contest for the opportunity to serve this great country as President if my party, the PDP, zones the ticket to the south.
“But if it is thrown open, Nigerians will also hear from me.”
Obi has sustained his close relationship with Atiku after the 2019 general elections even after they lost in the presidential race. He has been silent until Tuesday on the presidential race since his political ally, Atiku, had already declared interest in the presidential race and had commissioned a consultation committee led by High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, to mobiliser support across the country.
