In a statement published by Senegalese outlet Le Quotidien, Mane reflected on his journey with the national team and expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support.
“Know that I sacrificed everything for this flag.
“I gave the very best of myself and I always fought fiercely for our homeland.
“Your constant support has been the engine of my success.”
The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward also revealed his desire to continue contributing to Senegalese football in a different capacity.
“Tomorrow, I will gladly put my experience at the service of the nation, whether within a technical staff, on the sidelines as a coach, or in the governing bodies.”
Mane concluded his farewell message with a tribute to his country, saying:
“Long live Senegal.”
The announcement marks the end of one of the most successful international careers in Senegal’s history. Mane helped lead the Lions of Teranga to their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title and played a pivotal role in establishing the team among Africa’s football elite.
His final appearance came in Senegal’s dramatic World Cup defeat to Belgium, bringing an end to an international career defined by leadership, consistency and historic achievements.
