SARS kill 5 robbers in Calabar
It was a huge conquest on Monday as men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Cross River State killed five suspected armed robbers in Calabar.
National Daily gathered that the armed robbers had robbed and collected phones, and N250,000 cash from their victims around the IBB way by Rabana axis.
It was learnt that soon after the robbers attacked their victims, the SARS were alerted hence they swooped on them and gunned down a couple of them while others were said to have been caught and lynched by angry mob.
A Police source said the criminals were chased and intercepted at Barracks road. However, others said they were chased from Bogobiri.
A witness narrated, “They were chased from Bogobiri axis and shot one dead while running, two more were beaten to death by a mob and one was found dead inside a nearby compound located after the Nigerian Chronicle head office along Barracks road.
“I don’t know how the last one died,” he reiterated.
Confirming the robbery and killing, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Irene Igbo said there was a shootout and five of them were gunned down.
“Yes, five robbers were gunned down after a gun battle with our men and few of them were chased by SARS at Barracks road after they had robbed around that axis,” ASP Igbo explained.
It learnt that items recovered from them included three locally made pistols, live ammunitions and several other weapons.
Angered by their atrocities, angry members of the public burnt down the vehicle used by the suspected robbers.
