Three docked for stealing 700 bags of maize

Three men have been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 700 bags of 50kg maize belonging to an exporter, Alhaji Garba Ibrahim.
The three men – Musa Mohammed, (30), Yisa Faruk, (35) and Yusuf Haruna, (42) – were brought before the court on a five-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha told the court that the defendants committed the offence on June 8, 2018 at Apapa.
Obongha said Mohammed stole 700 bags of 50kg maize worth N4,500,000 belonging to an exporter, Alhaji Garuba Ibrahim and later sold the maize to Faruk.
The prosecutor said Faruk dishonestly received the 700 bags of maize from Mohammed, which he knew were stolen.
Ogbongha also said that Haruna received N300,000 from Mohammed knowing fully well that the money was a proceed from sales of the stolen property.
According to him, the offences contravened sections 411, 287, 280 (b), 328(1) and 286 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The three men pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against them.
The Magistrate, Adenike Alaka granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till July 13, 2018 for mention.
