Unbelievable! Chelsea legend slams Lukaku’s move to Stamford Bridge after deal was struck
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been keen to fortify his attack in their quest to challenge for the English Premier League title this season.
It has been reported that the west London club has struck a deal to resign their former forward Romelu Lukaku in a record £97.5m transfer fee from Inter Milan after the Serie A champions finally accepted a bid for their top striker.
Strangely, Lukaku is making a return to Stamford Bridge after spending three unsuccessful years at the club earlier in his career, but one interesting fact is that he is returning as one of the best strikers in Europe.
The Belgium all-time top goal scorer has thrived at Inter Milan when he scored 30 goals last season while ending as the club’s top scorer to help Inter win the Serie A title.
Meanwhile, despite the 28-year-old current form, former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has seen Lukaku’s return as a mistake while slamming the Blues for mounting the Belgian’s return to Stamford Bridge.
“Obviously he’s a big, powerful lad, quite physical but I just think the Premier League’s a bit too quick for him.
“So no, I wouldn’t like to see him return. But in certain leagues, he is going to get goals, albeit at a slightly slower pace.”
“I’m not so sure the Premier League suits Romelu Lukaku, to be honest,”
Johnson’s assessment of Lukaku may have appeared quite harsh, but frankly, the statistics have shown that the Belgian did actually struggled for goals in the Premier League when compared to his Serie A exploits in the last two years.
