The VGC Property Owners & Residents Association (VGCPORA) has reacted to last Saturday’s arrest of one Mr. Emeka Nzewi of K-5A/Road 14 and the discovery of a Meth Lab in his compound by the officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

It would be recalled that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Saturday, uncovered a drug lab inside the Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lekki, Lagos State.

The agency, acting on intelligence, busted the meth lab inside a rented apartment, at K-5A/2, in Road 14 of the VGC.

In an internal security alert signed by the General Manager of Victoria Garden City Management, Yusuff Marufat, Emeka has been on the wanted list of the NDLEA since 2017.

The suspects, through domestic staff, allegedly distribute the drug around the community.

VGCPORA said the discovery of the illicit meth lab has exposed all occupants of properties around Road 14 to hazardous meth lab chemicals used and waste generated from production.

“According to the NDLEA officials, all boreholes, water supply and plants 500 meters away from K-5a/road 14 have been contaminated. Therefore, VGCPORA in conjunction with NDLEA will conduct tests of water supply to properties around the K-5a/2 road 14.

VGCPORA also stated that the discovery of the meth lab and subsequent arrest of Emeka Nzewi and his accomplices’ shows that property owners do not conduct background checks of tenants before lease of properties, thereby exposing other residents to security risk.

“Henceforth, VGCPORA will make background checks mandatory for new residents before access cards will be issued or renewed for existing residents. Alcohol and drug misuse pose a threat to health and safety of VGC and to the security of the community.
