We’ll not succumb to temptation of shorts-cut – Osinbajo

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo today, May 29 told Nigerians that the Buhari administration will not succumb to the temptation to take short-cuts in finding a lasting solutions to Nigeria’s economic problems.

Prof. Osinbajo who stated this in his Democracy Day message said taking short-cuts will ultimately complicate the journey. “We did not find ourselves in crises overnight, and we simply do not expect overnight solutions to our challenges,” Osinbajo said.

He urged Nigerians not to despair but rather to look ahead and support the administration to realize the country of their dream as it had passed the difficult phase of its programme.

Acting President Osinbajo explained that the administration seeks for continued cooperation and support of Nigerians in other for it to realize all its best intentions and ambitions for Nigeria.

Osinbajo noted that the most important thing “is that we are on the right path, and we will not deviate from it, even in the face of strong temptation to choose temporary gain over long-term benefit.’’

Speaking further, Osinbajo reeled out the various efforts of the administration in the past two years, to put Nigeria back on track and ensure that the ‘old Nigeria’ disappears for the emergence of a new era.

“The most important thing is that we are on the right path, and we will not deviate from it, even in the face of strong temptation to choose temporary gain over long-term benefit. As the President has summed it up: “The old Nigeria is slowly but surely disappearing, and a new era is rising.”

According to him, the administration is working towards ensuring that Nigeria grows what it eats and produces what it consumes.

Osinbajo also assured Nigerians that one of the vision of the administration is for it to develop a lucrative petrochemical industry and stop the importation of petroleum products.

“Very importantly it is for a country whose fortunes are no longer tied to the price of a barrel of crude, but instead to the boundless talent and energy of its people, young and old, male and female as they invest in diverse areas of the economy.”

“As citizens you all deserve a country that works, not merely for the rich or connected, but for everyone. And our promise to you is that we will, with your support and cooperation, take every step needed to create that country of our dreams,” he said.
