Why Sanwo-Olu’s second term election could be easier than his first contest as Lagos governor
The contest for who would become the executive Governor of Lagos State has been a hot contest, since 1999 when the Federal Republic of Nigeria returned to the democratic system of governance.
Interestingly, ahead of the 2019 General elections, it was a hot contest to bring forth Babajide Sanwo-Olu against the wish of the former Executive Governor of the State, Akinwunmi Ambode, to re-pick the Governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state for a second term in Office.
The contest could be considered so hot, unpalatable and tough because Babajide Sanwo-Olu was contesting against a sitting Governor and not just that; but a Governor in the State of Excellence who was also performing, excellently.
However, with the supports of the former Executive Governor of Lagos State and a National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed, and his political soldiers; Babajide Sanwo-Olu was able to wrestle power from the Epe-born Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Although, it was remarkably hot, unbelievable to some people and sincerely wonderful.

However, despite the fact that the incumbent Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has not officially made declaration for his second term election as the Executive Governor of Lagos State and his claim to do more consultations before he would, convincingly, take decision on whether he should declare to run for the Lagos State Office of the Governor, for the second term or not.
Although, there is nothing bad in the decision of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to make consultations with the people of the state before making determination on whether he should contest for the second term in Office or not, but chances for his second term election may remain much easier.
The fact that he is currently not having much visible opposition within the party, could be considered as an opportunity for him to have easy ride to his second term in Office. The only member of the party who attempted to challenge his clique in the Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) was Jandor and that has, finally, dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Hence, we can say Babajide Sanwo-Olu, almost, already has the second term ticket at hand.
Besides, his level of performance is distinct enough to give him opportunity to win the Governorship ticket of the party in Lagos State, ahead of the 2023 general elections.
