Kanu’s supporters arrested in Abuja as court adjourns trial
A number of IPOB members have been arrested while they converged on the roadside in front of the federal high court where their leader Nnamdi Kanu was supposed to face trial July 26.
The crowd of supporters initially attempted to enter the court premises, but were forced back out. They eventually settled by the roadside, chanting solidarity song in spite of police warning.
The police later arrested some of them and put them in a van.
Kanu is facing terrorism trial which began in 2017 after over a year in detention.
Although he jumped bail and escaped to the UK where he is also a citizen, he was bundled back to Nigeria en route from Kenya early in July.
The July 26 resumption of trial failed again as the separatist leader failed to show up in court.
His lawyers gave no hint of the absence of their client on the weekend as they announced how Igbo delegates and IPOB members would come to observe the proceeding.
Justice Binta Nyako has adjourned the trial to October 21
