Buhari ends two weeks trip to UK, arrives Abuja
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday ended his two weeks trip to the United Kingdom (UK), arriving the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 18:15 pm.
The President was in the UK for the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), participating in the Global Education Summit (GES) before proceeding for medical check services.
President Buhari while in the UK, hosted dignitaries, including the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, who gave an assurance that the UK is available to assist Nigeria in the war against terrorism.
At the summit ,President Buhari promised to increase the budget for the education sector by 50 per cent in the next two years.
The president also promised that in the long term the budgetary allocation to the sector would witness a progressive increase to about 100 per cent in the next four years.
“We commit to progressively increasing our annual domestic education expenditure by 50 per cent over the next two years and up to 100 per cent by 2025 beyond the 20% global benchmark,” President Buhari was cited to have said.
The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba had earlier disclosed that Nigeria is expected to receive the sum of $125 million as support from the UK to boost the education sector.
President Buhari also met with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, where they deliberated on the crisis ravaging the ruling APC.
