Plateau By-election: We’ve no candidate for Jos North/Bassa polls, says PRP
By Kingsley Chukwuka
Just two days to the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency by-election in Plateau State the leadership of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), says it did not have a candidate to contest for the by-election slated for Saturday February 26.
Our Correspondent reports that PRP has been embroiled in an internal crisis in the State which has seen the party being led by two factions.
The National Representative of the Party Mr. Auwal Sani accompanied by the Plateau State Chairman of the Party, Alhaji Yusuf Sani Umar, while Speaking to Journalists at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Plateau Office on Wednesday, said PRP only recognises the National Chairman leadership Comrade Adulmajid Yakubu Daudu.
“We are here today to find out the outcome of the petition that we submitted sometimes on the so called faction of the PRP in Plateau State and we want to make clear and emphasized that there is only one PRP leader at the National Level who is Comrade Adulmajid Yakubu Daudu and the State Chairman Yusuf Sani Umar”
According to Sani the party has not presented any candidate for the by-election because their focus is to reorganize the party ahead of 2023 elections.
“If a so called faction has presented a candidate, we are not aware because we are the original PRP and that is why we had submitted a petition to INEC long before now to look into it, and we are waiting for them to act on the petition immediately”.
Also Speaking the State Chairman of PRP in the State Alhaji Yusuf Sani Umar said anybody parading himself as PRP chairman than him is a fraud.
“We are not after by-election, but the task ahead of us which is restructuring the party for 2023, as far as we are concerned we are not participating in the by-election on Saturday, and we don’t have a candidate”, he said
