AYU: Wike loses as Lagos, other southwest PDP isolate Makinde, Bode George
One of the last two states in the southwest that are yet to attack Oyo Gov Seyi Makinde in the on-going PDP crisis has done so.
As it’s now, all the states but two—Ekiti and Oyo—are rallying support for the PDP national chairman Iyorchia Ayu.
Rivers Gov. Nyesom Wike and his men, including Makinde and former party vice chairman Bode George, want to remove Ayu from office.
Makinde told the party presidebtial candidate Atiku Abubakar the only way to resolve the party crisis is for Ayu to resign. Bode George , on invitation o commission one of Wike’s projects in Rivers, also made the call.
Hhowever since Friday, the state chapters of the party in the southwest have been distancing themselves from Makinde and his Wike’s plot.
Osun began with a press statement attacking Makinde for the unilateral decision, followed by Ondo, and Ogun on Saturday.
Later on Saturday, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, on Saturday, the Lagos State Chapter of PDP also took a position.
“As much as we extolled His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as our leader in the southwest, there was no prior meeting where such agreement was reached with the leadership of the party in Lagos State,” Amode said in part.
He urged that the party’s focus should be directed mainly to encouraging its teeming members to rally round candidates vying for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governorship positions and ensure they win the elections.
“We appeal to individuals who view the removal of the National Chairman as a way to resolve to the internal crisis rocking the party to have a rethink and respect for the constitution of the party,” he said.
“We should see the need to form a solidly viable alliance that can guarantee our party’s victory in the next general elections,” Amode said.
