Former rebel leader forms resistance group against coup leaders in Niger
A former rebel leader in Niger Republic, Rhissa Ag Boula, expressing strong opposition to the coup in the coutnry, formed a resistance group against the military regime that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26.
Rhissa Ag Boula, in a statement on Wednesday, declared that he has formed a new Council of Resistance for the Republic (CRR) to reinstate ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
According to the statement, “Niger is the victim of a tragedy orchestrated by people charged with protecting it.”
Boula, in the statement, asserted that the CRR supports ECOWAS and other international groups battling to restore constitutional order in Niger. He stated that the resistance group would make itself available to the bloc for any useful purpose.
It was disclsoed that Boula played a leading role in uprisings by Tuaregs, a nomadic ethnic group present in Niger’s desert north, in the 1990s and 2000s.
And he was integrated into the government led by former President Bazoum and his predecessor, Mahamadou Issoufou.
