EU: Its difficult to reach unanimous decision on aid to kiev
The European Union is facing increasing difficulties in reaching an agreement on military aid to Ukraine, with one country potentially blocking the entire initiative.
EU Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, made this statement on Thursday, highlighting the growing challenges in securing a consensus on Ukraine’s defense needs.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the special summit on Ukraine in Brussels, Kallas acknowledged the rising complexity of reaching a unified decision among European Union member states.
She revealed that, as a result, new initiatives are being considered, including forming a “coalition of the willing.”
This would allow countries in favor of providing military aid to proceed without being hindered by a single dissenting member state.
“Yes, this is increasingly difficult to achieve agreements on Ukraine, and that is why we have on the new initiatives, also considered the coalition of the willing so that one country cannot block everybody else,” Kallas explained.
The summit, scheduled for later this week, is expected to focus on furthering European Union support for Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.

However, the potential for disagreements within the union remains a key hurdle as member states struggle to align their positions on military aid, sanctions, and broader diplomatic support.
Kallas’ comments reflect the growing divide within the EU on how best to support Ukraine while navigating internal political challenges.
The proposal of a coalition of willing nations marks a significant shift in European Union decision-making, aiming to ensure that vital aid is not delayed due to individual opposition.
