In a shocking and chaotic incident, the management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) has alleged that over 50 heavily armed individuals, claiming to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), violently invaded its premises in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to a statement released by the OOPL management, the alleged invasion occurred at approximately 2 a.m.

The group, which was reportedly led by a man identified only as “Olapade,” allegedly fired weapons and threatened lives, in what witnesses described as a “Gestapo-style invasion.”

The statement claims the attackers arrived without presenting a search warrant, causing widespread panic among attendees of a private event at the complex’s amusement area. The chaotic scene reportedly resulted in serious injuries as people attempted to flee.

The alleged operatives told the OOPL management they were acting on an intelligence tip regarding the private event.

However, both the internal security at OOPL and officers from the Kemta Police Station who were already present at the event after being pre-notified by the organizers—have confirmed they had no prior knowledge of any EFCC operation and were not informed of any pending raid.

Mr. Vitalis Ortese, the Managing Director of the OOPL, said that when he contacted the alleged leader of the team, “Olapade,” he was told the EFCC was acting on intelligence and that the police had been duly informed—an assertion the police have denied.

“This reckless act is not only an invasion of private property,” Ortese said, “but a blatant violation of the rights of the individuals attending a legal, publicly advertised event. We demand an immediate explanation and apology from the EFCC.”

The OOPL management has announced it is launching a formal investigation into the matter.

It intends to escalate the issue to the highest levels of authority, including the EFCC leadership, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The management also warned that if an adequate response is not received, they will pursue legal redress and seek sanctions against those responsible for the incident.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the EFCC regarding the incident.
