The 2027 general election appears to be generating strong public interest as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday reported over 26,000 engagements on its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal within hours of going live.
According to INEC, the online pre-registration exercise, which officially commenced on August 18, 2025, recorded 26,255 hits on its dedicated platform, cvr.inecnigeria.org, underscoring the enthusiasm of Nigerians eager to participate in the electoral process.
The initiative allows eligible citizens to begin registration digitally before completing the process at designated centres. Physical registration will kick off on Monday, August 25, 2025, across INEC’s 37 state offices and 774 Local Government Area offices nationwide.
The CVR is open to new voters aged 18 and above, while existing voters can also use the platform to transfer or collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), replace lost or damaged cards, or update their information. The Commission, however, cautioned against multiple registrations.
INEC urged Nigerians to seize the opportunity to register, stressing that participation in the CVR is critical to strengthening the country’s democratic process and ensuring credible elections.
For inquiries and support, citizens may contact the Commission via short code 4632, hotlines 09050858629, 09050858675, 09050858649, or email [email protected].
Reiterating its commitment to transparency, INEC assured that the CVR exercise will be seamless, accessible, and geared toward consolidating Nigeria’s democracy.
