Former Inspector-General of Police and political actor, Mohammed Adamu, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his defeat in the party’s governorship primaries in Nasarawa State.

Adamu’s exit came shortly after the declaration of Ahmed Wadada as winner of the APC governorship primary election, a result announced by the Chairman of the Nasarawa State APC Governorship Primary Committee, Prof. Theodore Maiyaki (SAN), in Lafia.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia, the former police chief rejected the outcome, insisting that the process did not reflect the will of party members across the state.

He alleged that the exercise was marred by irregularities, manipulation, and a lack of transparency, claiming that the majority of genuine delegates and stakeholders were sidelined during the conduct of the primaries.

According to him, in several polling areas where voting did not take place, result sheets were allegedly taken away and altered by certain officials allegedly working in collaboration with some local government chairmen in Nasarawa State.

Adamu maintained that in areas where voting was successfully conducted and ballots were properly counted, he emerged victorious, insisting that the declared outcome did not represent the authentic wishes of party members.

“I’ll pursue my ambition elsewhere,” Adamu said shortly after announcing his resignation from the ruling party, signaling his immediate departure from the APC platform.

His resignation adds to growing tensions within the All Progressives Congress following the conclusion of its governorship primaries across several states, where multiple high-profile aspirants failed to secure party tickets.

Political observers say Adamu’s exit could further reshape internal calculations within the APC in Nasarawa State ahead of the next general election cycle, particularly given his profile as a former top security chief who transitioned into partisan politics after retiring from the Nigeria Police Force.

As of the time of filing this report, party officials in Nasarawa State had yet to issue an official response to his resignation or the allegations raised against the conduct of the primaries.
