Manchester City confirm Enzo Maresca as new head coach
Manchester City have confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Pep Guardiola.
The Premier League champions announced that Maresca has signed a long-term deal believed to run until 2029, marking a new era at the Etihad Stadium after Guardiola’s successful decade-long reign.
Maresca, 45, previously worked as part of Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City during the club’s treble-winning campaign before moving on to managerial roles at Parma, Leicester City, and Chelsea.
City officials reportedly viewed the Italian tactician as the ideal candidate to maintain the club’s possession-based philosophy and tactical structure established under Guardiola.
Before returning to Manchester City, Maresca enjoyed spells with Leicester City, where he guided the club back to the Premier League, and Chelsea, where he won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup during the 2024–25 season.
Guardiola recently confirmed he would step away from coaching after ending his historic spell at City, during which he won multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and the club’s first UEFA Champions League trophy.
Reports indicate Maresca will also play a major role in Manchester City’s transfer plans ahead of the new season as the club begins preparations for life after Guardiola.
