Falana dares Ali Modu Sheriff to sue over renewed Boko Haram claims
Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has renewed allegations linking former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, to the Boko Haram insurgent group, claiming that the ex-governor founded the sect.
Speaking in a video circulating on social media, Falana alleged that Sheriff was arrested in Cameroon over his purported links to the group before the Nigerian government intervened and secured his release through diplomatic negotiations.
Falana maintained that he stood by his claims and challenged the former governor to institute legal proceedings against him if the allegations were false.
According to the senior lawyer, Sheriff should seek redress in court if he believes the statements are defamatory.
Sheriff has consistently denied allegations of involvement with Boko Haram and has not been convicted of any offence relating to the insurgent group. At the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from the former governor to Falana’s latest remarks.

“Ali Modu Sheriff was arrested in Cameroon on October 10, 2012, over his links with Boko Haram, and the Jonathan administration intervened to secure his release. If what I have said is false, he should sue me,” Falana said in the viral video.
Falana maintained that he stood by his claims and challenged the former governor to institute legal proceedings against him if the allegations were false.
