Commercial bus driver facing jail term for punching off passenger’s teeth
A commercial bus driver, Jimoh Rafiu, 35, who allegedly punched off his passenger’s teeth has been brought before a Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ikeja, Lagos.
Rafiu, who resides at No. 5, Olaleye St., Oko-Oba, Agege, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count charge of bordering on assault.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Victor Eruada, told court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 14 at Salolo Bus Stop on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos.
Eruada said the accused physically assaulted, Abraham Kunle, after he refused to refuned his money when he had a puncture.
“Kunle sustained mouth injury following several punches he received from Rafiu during an argument”, he claimed.
The offences contravened Sections 171 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 . Newsmen report that Sections 171 and 172 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault occasioning harm.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted him bail in the sum of N25, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until Oct. 20 for hearing.
