Police Superintendent gave us gun – Robber confesses

The Nigerian public were shocked to marrow Tuesday when a robbery suspect confessed before news men in Lagos that the guns recovered from his gangs were given to them by a serving police officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Parading the five-man gang in Lagos, the robbery gang was led by a fake policeman arrested at Abbatoir, Agege area of the state.
The fake policeman, who identified himself as
Joel Ojo, said the guns and the police Identity Card recovered from the gang were given to him by a police friend identified as a Chief Superintendent Muhammed.
The Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said the suspects were apprehended on Monday, September 28, at about 11pm while driving against traffic.
National Daily learnt that the gang were stopped by a police patrol team, and their vehicle searched leading to the recovery of two pump-action rifles, two pistols with several cartridges, a police I.D. card and a police uniform.
Ojo, (58 years) claimed he was taking the rifles for repairs, but denied using it for robbery but for security guard.
He said, “We were arrested at about 11pm for driving against the traffic. The guns were in my car and I was taking them for repair. I am not the owner of the guns. I started to use the police I.D.
card and the guns early this year. I work as a security man.
“It was one of my police friends who gave me the I.D. card and the guns. He is my friend; a CSP of police. He was a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) before he was transferred to Abuja. He knew I was a security man and his name is CSP Muhammed attached to the Force headquarters,
Abuja, Ojo confessed.
Fatai Owoseni, appealed to residents to avail the force of useful and timely information to enable the police track criminals.
He added that his command will not harbour criminals noting that “We are working to discipline erring officers, and reduce crimes to the barest minimum.”
