Bomb alarm on Air Peace flight to Abuja false, says FAAN
The threat of a bomb on an early morning Air Peace flight from Abuja to Lagos has been confirmed to be false.
Recall that one of the passengers in an Air Peace flight enroute Lagos from Abuja had earlier raised an alarm that there was a bomb on the plane.
However, in a statement released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, on Wednesday, it said the alarm had been discovered to be false, and that the passenger who raised the alarm has an history of mental illness and is currently with the security agencies and medical experts for assessment.
While reiterating the agency’s commitment to its core values of safety, security and comfort, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN’s General Manager for Corporate Affairs, said following the false information, officers of FAAN’s aviation security swiftly evacuated passengers, crew and cargo on board the flight and a bomb squad immediately conducted a thorough check on the aircraft and baggage, which confirmed the information to be false.
Aftermath of the due diligence test carried out on the aircraft, a fresh boarding call has been made and passengers have boarded the flight for take-off to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
She said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to re-assure passengers and all airport users that all Airports in Nigeria are safe and secure, stressing that operators and customers shouldn’t nurse any fear while conducting their businesses within the Airports.
