The dreaded Boko Haram terrorists have continued to unleash mayhem, destroying lives and property, in the North East despite efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces to combat the terrorists and restore order in that part of the country.
In continuous defiance of military operations in the North, two female bombers this Wednesday morning struck at Ummarari village near Molai in the outskirts of Maiduguri metropolis, Borno State, killing 22 persons and injuring 18 others through detonation of improvised explosive device.
It was gathered that the first attack was targeted a mosque where Muslims had gathered for early morning prayers, the second blast occurred a few minutes later at about 50 metres away.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, had confirmed the bomb explosion, disclosing that troops, security agents and care givers have been mobilized to scene, while the wounded have been evacuated to Molai General Hospital for treatment.
He said in a statement that soldiers alongside other security agents and the Civilian Joint Task Force have secured the area and are combing the environment for possible clues.
While sympathizing with families of the victims of the dastardly act, the Army spokesman reassured the public that “we would continue to rout the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists wherever they may be hiding. We will not rest on our oars until all those that masterminded these latest heinous and other similar crimes are apprehended and brought to justice.
“Meanwhile, we implore the members of the public to be more security conscious, cooperate with the troops and security agencies. They should also please report any suspicious persons, objects or happenings to troops or security agencies at all times,” he stated.
